Melissa Nelson - Account Manager
Melissa is an expert public relations practitioner with 15 years experience in all marketing and communications disciplines. She is respected for her ability to work well under pressure and has excellent writing, editing, awareness raising, community engagement and issues management skills.
Melissa has worked across a multitude of sectors and high profile projects during her time at Sequel, most recently promoting the launch of the $6 billion AirportlinkM7 – Australia’s largest infrastructure project – and Queensland Museum’s blockbuster exhibition Mummy: Secrets of the Tomb.
Her government relations expertise was honed over many years working in senior positions in local and state politics. Before joining Sequel, Melissa worked for Brisbane City Council as team leader for the Moving Brisbane Portfolio which included the Local Disaster Coordination Centre’s response to the 2011 January floods and the reconstruction of the ferry terminals.
She also managed the delivery of a driver safety campaign in the lead up to the opening of Australia’s longest road tunnel, CLEM7, and developed and implemented a $1.2 million integrated marketing and advertising campaign for the launch of the Go Between Bridge (a four-landed inner city toll bridge).
Melissa was also Public Relations Manager for the Child and Adolescent Health Service in Perth incorporating the Princess Margaret Hospital for Children. A major part of her role was managing contentious and sensitive media issues and generating positive media around services and achievements of the health service. She also delivered media training and provided on-call media issues management, including leading the health service’s media response to the 2009 Swine Flu epidemic.
